Des Moines Irish Session’s band is an outgrowth of the traditional “seisiúns” that have gathered regularly at venues throughout central Iowa for over 35 years. The weekly sessions usually draw anywhere from 6 to 18 players, some from as far away as Japan, Australia, and Ireland. All musicians are welcome.
Between 5 and 8 regulars perform professionally all over Iowa, playing a mix of jigs, reels, and songs sung in both English and Irish. Musicians often add a few innovative touches, just to keep the tradition evolving, and to keep the audience guessing.
